REGISTERED MASSAGE
THERAPY

What Is Registered Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy is a regulated healthcare service provided by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) licensed through the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

Massage therapy uses skilled, hands-on techniques to assess and treat the soft tissues of the body. Treatment may support pain relief, mobility, circulation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. Care is always individualized and adapted to the person, not the condition alone.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your initial appointment includes time to discuss your goals, health history, and any areas of concern. Your therapist may assess movement or range of motion to help guide treatment.

Sessions may include hands-on massage, gentle movement or stretching, and tools such as cupping when appropriate. Some treatments are more focused and active; others are centred on relaxation and nervous system support.

You set the tone. Your therapist adapts the care to meet you where you are.

MOVEMENT-BASED CARE

Movement isn’t about doing more — it’s about understanding your body better. When used thoughtfully, movement can support healing, confidence, and long-term comfort.

Movement-Based Care reflects how we approach treatment at MoveWell.

We view movement as an important part of understanding how the body feels, functions, and adapts, not as something that needs to be prescribed, trained, or performed perfectly. Movement is used as a tool to support tissue health, joint function, recovery, and confidence in the body.

Movement-Based Care may include guided joint movement, isometrics, active stretching, or simple mobility strategies that support your treatment goals. For some people, this might look like a brief movement suggestion alongside hands-on massage. For others, it may be a more intentional blend of treatment and movement.

There is no set formula. Care is tailored to the individual, their capacity, and what feels most useful and realistic for them.

We view movement as a supportive tool, not a requirement.

We integrate simple, targeted movement when it adds value to your care, always guided by your goals, capacity, and comfort. Sometimes movement is part of the session; sometimes rest is exactly what’s needed. Both are valid.

TREATMENTS & MODALITIES

These treatments and modalities may be incorporated into your massage therapy treatment when appropriate, based on your goals, preferences, and clinical presentation.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a myofascial technique that uses gentle suction to lift the skin and underlying tissues. This decompressive approach can help reduce muscle tension, improve tissue glide, increase range of motion, and ease pain associated with myofascial restriction.

At MoveWell, cupping may be applied statically (cups placed briefly in one area) or dynamically (cups gently moved along the skin), and is often combined with hands-on massage and movement. Temporary cupping marks may occur and typically fade within several days.

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®)

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®) is a movement-based system focused on joint health, mobility, and active control through range of motion. Within a massage therapy setting, FRC principles may be used to support joint function, improve usable range of motion, and reduce pain associated with stiffness, injury, or repetitive stress.

Techniques such as controlled articular rotations (CARs), isometrics, and active stretching may be incorporated into treatment or home care recommendations when appropriate, based on individual needs and goals.

Kinesiology Taping (K-Tape)

Kinesiology tape is a flexible, supportive tape applied to the skin to provide gentle sensory input to muscles, joints, and connective tissue. Depending on how it is used, taping may help reduce pain, support joint stability, improve movement awareness, and assist with swelling or circulation.

The tape is lightweight, comfortable, and designed to move with your body. It can remain on the skin for several days and is often used to help extend the benefits of treatment between appointments.

Prenatal Massage Therapy

Prenatal massage is a safe and supportive form of massage therapy during pregnancy, tailored to the changing needs of the body. Treatment may help reduce muscle and joint discomfort, relieve tension, improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support relaxation and sleep.

Your therapist will discuss your pregnancy experience and comfort preferences to create an individualized treatment plan. Sessions are typically performed in side-lying with supportive cushioning to ensure comfort and safety throughout treatment.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage is a treatment that uses smooth, heated stones in combination with hands-on techniques. The warmth of the stones helps promote deep relaxation, increase circulation, and allow muscles to release more easily.

This 60min treatment is well suited for those experiencing persistent muscle tension, stress, or who simply benefit from a slower, more grounding style of care. Hot Stone Massage is a full-body treatment focused on relaxation while still remaining within a therapeutic massage therapy framework.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a focused treatment that addresses the head, neck, shoulders, and upper back. It is performed with the client comfortably seated or lying down and may be done with or without oil.

This technique is commonly used to reduce tension, ease headaches, relieve neck and shoulder discomfort, and promote relaxation. It can be offered as part of a full massage therapy treatment or as a targeted session, depending on your needs.
